Company told to stop mortgage activity
After continuing to solicit and negotiate mortgage loans without a license — after being told to stop in 2011 — the National African American Relationships Institute, Inc. was again told to cease the activity.
The organization, also known as NAARI Housing Counseling Agency, was enjoined late last month from engaging in residential mortgage activity by the Superior Court of DeKalb County.
It had violated a cease and desist order from the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance that had been active since Dec. 21, 2011, the department said in a statement.
In April, the department filed to obtain a court order to stop the continued violations. The court issued a final order July 30.
NAARI does not have a Georgia license and is not exempt from licensure, the department said. It is therefore prohibited from negotiating mortgage loans, including any renewal or refinancing.
