The state Agriculture Department said Reser’s Fine Foods Inc., a major manufacturer and distributor of fresh and frozen prepared foods, is recalling products in Georgia and other parts of the country that may be contaminated with a harmful organism.
The Beverton, Ohio-based company is recalling 109,000 cases of refrigerated ready-to-eat products, such as cole slaw, potato salad, seafood salad and macaroni that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Here is a link (PDF) to the products on the recall list.
The packages are marked with various October and November”use by” and “best by” dates, which are followed by a plant identifier code of 20. The recalled products were manufactured at a plant in Topeka, Kansas.
State inspectors will be checking retail stores and food warehouses to make sure the recalled products are removed from shelves, the state Agriculture Department said.
Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometime fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and individuals with weakened immune systems.
Consumers who purchased the product may take it back to the store for a refund or discard it.
