Countries around the globe received financial support from The Coca-Cola Foundation to address everything from obesity to recycling.
The charitable arm of the world’s largest non-alcoholic beverage company said Friday it awarded $8.1 million to 47 community organizations across the globe during the third quarter of 2013. The grants are expected to give 3.8 million people worldwide increased access to personal well-being, environmental and community empowerment programs.
About $2.8 million was directed toward healthy living initiatives while $2.5 million went to organizations backing education programs. Recycling initiatives received $1.1 million while $650,000 has been given to support youth development.
The Foundation has awarded $58.5 million year-to-date worldwide.
“The health and well-being of our families and communities concern everyone,” said Lisa Borders, chairwoman of the foundation. “We are taking an active role working with grassroots community organizations to find solutions to those major issues affecting our world today.
