Cargoitalia flights to Atlanta short-lived

July 1, 2011

Italian cargo carrier Cargoitalia said it has discontinued its short-lived service to Atlanta and hopes to resume it when the situation improves.

When Cargoitalia launched its service to Atlanta Feb. 3, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, who has made increasing air cargo operations a priority, said the relationship with Cargoitalia "shows that Atlanta is taking another step to be a leading cargo airport destination."

But Cargoitalia's twice-weekly service lasted only until April 18. Air freight markets worldwide showed a 4 percent decline in May, according to an International Air Transport Association report.

Cargoitalia said it is continues to serve the United States with flights from Milan to New York and Chicago.
