Borders has announced an additional 26 store closings, including one in Atlanta, as it continues through the bankruptcy process.
The Michigan bookseller had already announced that five Atlanta stores would be among the 200 it planned to close.
In the Thursday announcement, Borders said the Buckhead Triangle store, at 3637 Peachtree Rd. NE in Atlanta would close by late May. That store has 27 employees and has been open since 1995, Borders spokesperson Rosalind Thompson said.
Thompson said the company had the option to close an additional 75 stores, and that 140 were on the bubble. The original announcement was for 28 closures, but Borders came to agreements with landlords at one store each in Pennsylvania and Rhode Island to keep them open.
The other Atlanta- area stores slated to close are:
3101 Cobb Parkway, Atlanta
1605 East-West Connector Road, Austell
1705 Mall of Georgia Blvd., Buford
605 Ernest W. Barrett Parkway, Kennesaw
3630 Peachtree Parkway, Johns Creek
The closures will leave seven Borders stores in metro Atlanta, including a Borders Express in Northlake Mall and a Waldenbooks in Kennesaw.
"We're going to work very hard to keep the rest open," Thompson said.
