A lawyer for a development firm planning a massive industrial campus near the Newnan-Coweta County Airport, said her client does not yet have a tenant for the site, but the firm is readying designs to help attract prospects.

Atlanta-based Pope & Land Enterprises has proposed a project called Bridgeport Industrial, a more than 1,000-acre complex for manufacturing, research and design, warehousing and offices near the city of Moreland. The site is along I-85 about 40 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta.

“The plans are conceptual in nature. They’re attempting to generate interest with this rezoning (application),” said Melissa Griffis, an attorney assisting Pope & Land with the rezoning application.

Industrial development has shown signs of life of late in metro Atlanta amid a prolonged, if slow, recovery.

The property is among the largest potential industrial sites available in the state. The site is also property Pope & Land has controlled for a number of years, Griffis said.

In addition to a direct link to rail, the site sits along the freeway and is about 30 miles southwest of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The Pope & Land concept was outlined in a Development of Regional Impact filing submitted this week by Coweta County officials. The development timeline is through 2018.

The project description calls for more than 7 million square feet in heavy and light industrial space, nearly 300,000 square feet in research and design space and more than 700,000 square feet of warehouses.

Pope & Land has been involved in many prominent Atlanta projects, including the 3630 Peachtree office and condo tower in Buckhead. The firm also is one of the partners in the mixed-use development planned next to the new Braves stadium in Cobb County.
