The Atlanta Regional Commission has given its approval for a proposed massive mixed-use complex along Georgia 400 in Sandy Springs.

Houston-based developer Hines has pitched a blend of high-rise office space, as well as retail space, 500 residential units and a 250-room hotel.

The project, called 100 Northpark, would still require zoning approval by the city of Sandy Springs. The ARC examined the proposal because of its scope under the Development of Regional Impact program.

The proposed project at Abernathy Road and Ga. 400 comes as the Central Perimeter office district filled more high-end office space last year than any other metro submarket.

Six soldiers were honored, each receiving Meritorious Service Medals, Thursday for heroic actions responding to the shooting at Fort Stewart. “One of the things I can say unequivocally is that the fast action of these soldiers — under stress and under trauma and under fire — absolutely saved lives from being lost,” U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll told reporters as the six soldiers stood near him Thursday. “They are everything that is good about this nation.” (Hyosub Shin/AJC)
