American Airlines' regional carrier American Eagle said it will soon begin flying to Columbus, Georgia from its hub at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

The flights to Columbus will begin July 15. Fort Worth, Texas-based American said it will fly the route twice daily with 44-seat Embraer ERJ-140 jets.

Atlanta-based Delta already flies from Atlanta to Columbus, which is on the banks of the Chattahoochee River and is near Fort Benning.

U.S. Rep. Lynn A. Westmoreland (R-Ga.) said in a written statement that American's new flights will open up more flight options for travelers in the Columbus area and "keep more money flowing into the local economy."
