AirTran Airways announced it plans to begin operating seasonal flights to Bermuda from Atlanta and Baltimore starting next year.

AirTran, which is based in Orlando and has its largest hub in Atlanta, said it plans to start flying from Atlanta to L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda on May 26, with daily flights through Sept. 6. The airline plans to fly the Baltimore-Bermuda route daily from April 7 through Oct. 24. Both routes are subject to government approval.

AirTran has reached a deal to be acquired by Dallas-based Southwest Airlines, in a transaction expected to close in the first half of next year. Southwest said AirTran’s international routes were among the assets it was targeting. AirTran flies to a handful of short-haul destinations, with routes to Cancun; Aruba; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Nassau in the Bahamas and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
