Aeropostale, a mall retailer that focuses on teen fashion, has filed for bankruptcy, according to reports.
The chain says it will close 113 stores in the United States and 41 in Canada in an effort to “achieve long-term financial stability.” The company has about 800 stores total.
The move will force the closure of the chain’s store at the Mall at Stonecrest, according to a closure list on Fortune magazine’s website. The company also has stores at Lenox Square and Cumberland, Perimeter and Southlake malls. A store at the Shoppes of River Crossing in Macon also will close, according to the Forbes list.
Aeropostale is the latest chain troubled by a turbulent retail environment that is struggling against increased online shopping and changing consumer habits. Athletics giant Sports Authority also is closing stores while it undergoes bankruptcy proceedings.
