A company formed in a joint venture of two global corporate giants plans to put its 140-employee U.S. headquarters in Alpharetta, according to an announcement from the company and the city’s mayor.
Primetals Technologies, created earlier this year by German-based Siemens and Japan-based Mitsubishi heavy Industries expects to shift some staff to Alpharetta, while also hiring people here and investing more than $2 million during the next five years.
The joint venture plans to build a 35,000 square-foot facility for “engineers, engineering managers and technicians, as well as personnel involved in project execution, sales and support,” according to a statement.
“Locating fewer than five miles from the Siemens offices will facilitate this transition and strengthen our own corporate identity,” said Satoru Iijima, President and CEO of Primetals.
About 9,000 people work for Primetals, including roughly 2,300 in the Americas.
The choice of Alpharetta is another affirmation of the city’s importance in metro Atlanta as a corporate hug, said Mayor David Belle Isle. “Primetals Technologies adds to Alpharetta’s already sterling portfolio of industry-leading companies.”
