Life after 'American Idol': Carrie Underwood, Ruben Studdard, Kellie Pickler, Ryan Seacrest

By RODNEY HO/, originally filed Monday, July 18, 2016

Carrie Underwood rang in her latest No. 1 country hit with "Church Bells" this week.

Her run of hits on country radio over the past 11 years has been astounding. Every single major release pitched to country radio has gone top 3 on the country airplay charts, from "Jesus Take the Wheel" to "Before He Cheats" to "Cowboy Casanova" to "Blown Away" to "Something in the Water." Her current album "Storyteller' has now generated three hits, with "Church Bells" following "Heartbeat" and "Smoke Break."

Underwood at this point can basically do no wrong and remains the beacon of "American Idol" alums everywhere.

Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee, who co-starred in NBC's short-lived "Smash" series a few years ago, reunited to sing "Let Me Be Your Star" in Los Angeles Sunday night.

McPhee's CBS show "Scorpion" enters its third season this fall.

Ruben Studdard took part in a "Stop the Violence" rally in Birmingham over the weekend. Details here.

“I grew up in Birmingham, I love Birmingham and I want Birmingham to continue to be the peaceful and wonderful city that I, you know, that I grew up in,” Studdard said.

Ryan Seacrest has expanded his clothing line to sportswear.

The Los Angeles Times notes that it's inspired by the Olympics:

The 13-piece Distinction Rio collection that launched in mid-June, available at Macy’s stores and, includes a $135 color-blocked bomber jacket; $50 V-neck T-shirt; $60 cotton shorts; $150 casual knit blazer; $60 microfiber drawstring swim trunks; a $195 gray duffle bag; $60 polo shirts; $58 navy espadrilles; and a $42 straw fedora. It’s all a departure from his ongoing Ryan Seacrest Distinction line of business wear such as suits and suit separates that run anywhere from $150 to $695, $69.50 French cuff button-down shirts and $59.50 silk ties.

Here's a sample of his line:
