Evacuate.
That was the warning given Monday to some residents of a Gwinnett mobile home park due to rising water levels at nearby Beaver Ruin Creek.
Gwinnett County fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said a police officer patrolling hear the Norcross-area Jones RV and Mobile Home Park discovered the flooding shortly before 11 a.m. First responders then went door-to-door to evacuate the 30 affected home sites.
"An estimated 20-plus people were able to walk through the water to safer ground," Rutledge said in an email. "Police carried several children through the water, which was estimated to be [as high as four feet] in a few spots."
A dog was also rescued, Rutledge said. No injuries were reported.
One resident of the complex on Willow Trail Parkway told authorities there was about an inch of water inside his home, but water was not believed to have penetrated any others, Rutledge said.
Firefighters cut utilities to the affected homes before leaving the scene around 1 p.m., Rutledge said. Residents won't be able to return until the water recedes and utilities are restored.
