I just finished a column (posted soon on MyAJC.com ) on my three-point plan to fix the Falcons. Actually, it's not so much a three-point plan as it is three questions about the team going into this offseason's intended repair job by general manager Thomas Dimitroff and his staff.
I’ll share the beginning with you: It focuses on Jadeveon Clowney.
Most of you know what the defensive end brings to the table, having watched him the last three years at South Carolina. There are two concerns related to Clowney and the potential of his landing spot in Atlanta:
• 1.) Can his relatively poor season be attributed simply to him trying to avoid injury before declaring himself eligible for the NFL draft, or is it an indication of a bigger problem with his mental makeup?
• 2.) Would it cost the Falcons a Julio Jones-like boat load of draft picks if they sought to move up from their sixth overall draft position to get Clowney?
My thoughts on both of these concerns are in the column.
In short, I believe this is a move that the Falcons should make. It won’t cost a ton of picks and Clowney would impact their defense in a way no other player available to them this offseason can.
So now I’m putting it to you. Do you think the Falcons should make a move for Clowney?
