This is another blog entry that looks ahead to the looming battle over the budget in Congress. The basic question is, where would you want to cut back?
Today we look at housing grant money that is handed out by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The reason I'm listing some of the grant money issued by HUD is that if you are going to make deep cuts in the non-defense, non-homeland security portions of the budget, then social spending on education, housing and health is going to be on the chopping block.
What follows is a list of grants recently handed out by HUD to several states for "Housing Counseling" programs. I have listed grants for Florida, Georgia, Ohio and Oklahoma here.
You can see the full list of grants for all 50 states at the HUD website (pdf file).
As always, I say that this money is not listed to advocate that certain money be cut or kept in the budget. It is merely put forward to help you, the voter, figure out what should stay and what should go from Uncle Sam's budget.
Read through this list and please leave a comment.
