Aggravated by plans at NBC and CNN for special programming on Hillary Clinton, the head of the Republican National Committee accused those networks of "putting a thumb on the scales of the 2016 presidential election," as the RNC raised the specter of refusing to sponsor any debates with those news organizations.
"I'm writing you to express my deep disappointment in your company's decision to air a miniseries promoting former Secretary Hillary Clinton ahead of her likely candidacy for the Democratic nomination for president in 2016," RNC Chief Reince Priebus wrote in a letter to NBC that was released today.
In a similar letter to CNN, Priebus says special programming on Clinton would be "most accurately described as an in-kind donation" to her campaign, as he urged both networks to stop what he said was basically a "political ad masquerading as an unbiased production."

In a news release to reporters, Priebus said if the networks don't back off their Hillary plans, then he may take the next step at a GOP meeting next week.
"If they have not agreed to pull this programming prior to the start of the RNC’s Summer Meeting on August 14, I will seek a binding vote stating that the RNC will neither partner with these networks in 2016 primary debates nor sanction primary debates they sponsor," Priebus said.
