If you have a schedule of the primaries and caucuses for the Republicans running for the Congress, Maine isn't listed this weekend - but there are a handful of GOP caucuses taking place.
I took a look at the fine print for Maine after seeing that Ron Paul was spending both Friday and Saturday there - and sure enough - there are a few towns holding caucus events.
For example, the towns of Lincoln, Lowell, Burlington, Chester, Enfield, Winn and Howland in Penobscot County are gathering Republicans at the VFW Hall on Saturday morning.
Sunday brings individual caucuses in Fairfield, Unity and Palermo.
The Palermo caucus sounds like it might be interesting, because it is being held at the home of Cheryl Parkman - a quick Google search found that Ms. Parkman is a member of the Maine Tea Party, so that should be an interesting gathering.
I remember seeing one GOP caucus in Iowa that was held at the home of a state lawmaker, whose home address also seemed to double for an RV park. This is what we mean by a true "citizen" government.
There is also a caucus on Monday night in Millinocket at the "Snowmobiles Club."
Most of the Maine caucuses are next weekend, when Nevada also holds GOP caucuses.
It is a reminder that while Florida is getting a lot of headlines right now, there is a lot of more out there than just the Sunshine State.
