Sam Lape of Westminster shot a 73 to win the 12th annual Sutton Invitational, the unofficial middle school state championship, at the Bobby Jones Golf Course in Atlanta.

Westminster won the team title, followed by Harrison and Drew Charter. It was Westminster’s fifth championship, but first since 2009. Will Morlan of Holy Redeemer was second among individuals.

Ayanna Habeel of Edwards Middle School shot 75 to win the girls championship.

Twenty schools participated in this year's event, which was created by Sutton Middle School coach Matt Adams. Teams can play as many as four players, with two individuals counting toward the team score.

Peachtree Ridge wins Gwinnett Open

Senior Charles Huntzinger set a tournament record by scored 53 points in the Modified Stableford scoring system to win the Gwinnett Open at The Chimney’s Golf Club.

Teammate Mike Collins had 48 points and Peachtree Ridge, the reigning Class AAAAAA champion, had a 217 team total.

Grayson finish second in the tournament, which was postponed earlier this spring because of bad weather.
