Valdosta’s quest for a football coach continues.

The Valdosta school board had on its Thursday night agenda ‘’head football coach vacancy discussion,’’ but school board members voted 8-1 to table public consideration.

Leading candidates are former Colquitt County coach Rush Propst and former Valdosta State coach Hal Mumme, according to sources close to the search.

The superintendent could have made a recommendation of a candidate that might set in motion a vote to hire. That did not happen, according to the Valdosta Daily Times and other media.

That likely means that negotiations or contract details with candidates are not complete.

Thursday’s meeting was live-streamed as the public could not attend because of the city’s shelter-in-place order.

Valdosta fired coach Alan Rodemaker last month after four seasons as head coach, 10 on staff. Rodemaker’s record was 36-17 over four seasons. The 2016 team, Rodemaker’s first as head coach, won the school’s first state title since 1998.
