Tucker dropped an appeal Tuesday afternoon of the Georgia High School Association’s ruling that its girls basketball must vacate its place in the state tournament. The hearing was scheduled for Wednesday morning.

Tucker was disqualified from the tournament Monday when the GHSA found Tucker guilty of illegally recruiting players. Six Tucker players  transferred to Tucker in the off-season, and at least four had been part of the same AAU program and had been coached the father of an existing Tucker player.

Tucker, ranked eighth in its classification and a state champion in 2014, was scheduled to play Harrison on Wednesday night in the Class AAAAAA quarterfinals. The GHSA canceled that game and allowed Bradwell Institute and Grovetown – the teams that Tucker defeated in the first two rounds – to play for Tucker’s vacated spot in the quarters against Harrison.

Tucker’s girls team is the first in tournament history to be disqualified by the GHSA while the tournament was in progress.
