Trey Brown is a player that didn't get enough credit in 2016, when the Macon County wide receiver had 24 TD receptions. Brown also won a state title.
His talents helped teammate K'hari Lane's break Hutson Mason's record of 54 TD passes in a season. Lane threw 56.
Lane has moved on to the University of Arizona, but Brown returns for his senior season. His 24 TD receptions rank second all-time to the 27 of M.L. King's DeMarco Robinson in 2010.
Brown is one of the 10 best wide receivers in Georgia. Our choices are made largely on the players' high school production, although their status as recruits also is considered.
*Dominick Blaylock, Walton (6-0, 175): Blaylock is the consensus No. 2 WR prospect nationally in the class of 2019. He had 59 catches for 904 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore. Blaylock committed to Georgia last month.
*Trey Brown, Macon County (6-3, 190): Brown was the chief receiver during Lane's run to the state-record 56 touchdown passes last season. Brown caught 24 of those. He had 53 catches for 1,066 yards, his second season over 1,000. Brown has several mid-major offers, including one from Georgia Southern.
*Malachi Carter, Mountain View (6-3, 180): Carter caught 58 passes for 1,012 yards last season for an 8-3 team that was the first in school history with a winning record (8-3) or playoff berth. He was second-team GSWA all-state. Georgia Tech is among the leading schools chasing Carter.
*Marquez Ezzard, Stockbridge (6-2, 200): Ezzard - who recently committed to Florida State - had 50 catches for 1,015 yards and 12 touchdowns for Stockbridge's Class AAAAA semifinal team. In the semis against eventual champion Rome, Ezzard had nine catches for 212 yards and three touchdowns.
*Louis Hall, Woodstock (5-11, 185): Hall committed to Furman last week, delivering the Paladins one of Georgia's most productive receivers. In 2016, he had 97 catches for 1,017 yards (second straight year over 1,000) and 12 touchdowns. He averaged 25.5 yards on kick returns.
*Kearis Jackson, Peach County (5-10, 200): Jackson is a top-125 national recruit and the No. 1 WR prospect in Georgia. He had 52 catches for 739 yards and nine touchdowns and another 650 yards and five touchdowns rushing and returning. His reported leaders are Georgia and Auburn.
*Ramel Keyton, Marietta (6-2, 180): A junior, Keyton caught 77 passes for 1,347 yards and seven touchdowns in just 10 games last season. He's a consensus top-250 recruit nationally in the class of 2019. Florida and Georgia are contenders to sign him.
*Steven Peterson, Harrison (6-1, 180): Peterson is star QB Justin Fields' top receiver. Peterson had 67 catches for 1,118 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. He's also a great down-field blocker. Harrison has an offer from Air Force.
*Andre Tarver, Ringgold (6-1, 180): Tarver is a Mississippi State baseball signee, but he's got a chance at 4,000 career yards as a football receiver. He had 1,130 on 42 catches with 12 touchdowns in 10 games last year as a sophomore. He also had 62 tackles, four interceptions, three sacks and four forced fumbles playing the other side of the ball.
*Josh Vann, Tucker (5-11, 175): Vann last season became the first Tucker receiver to garner first-team all-state recognition since 1963. Vann had 63 receptions for 1,286 yards and 13 touchdowns for a state runner-up team that passed only 13 times per game. Vann also is a good punter (38.0 average). A top-200 national recruit, Vann is a South Carolina lean, although Georgia continues to tug.
