Callaway senior Cedric Maynard put himself on the map of Georgia football in Callaway's fifth game, when he rushed for 305 yards against Troup. Now, the senior has eclipsed 300 again, running for 317 last week against Rockmart.

Maynard is now the second-leading rusher in the state with 1,537 yards, trailing only the 1,580 of Mount Paran Christian's Taylor Trammell.

Maynard is 5 feet, 9 inches and 180 pounds, and consistently runs 4.4 seconds over 40 yards, occasionally in the 4.3's.

"Cedric's speed is the obvious thing that makes him special because he has the explosiveness to take it to the house every time he touches the ball," Callaway running backs coach Kurt Napier said. "He is a really patient runner that has a good understanding of the game and the blocks happening in front of him. He has a knack for letting the play develop."

But Napier says Maynard has no scholarship offers and hardly any contact from college coaches. It's not because Callaway is under the radar. The Cavaliers are 6-1 and ranked No. 8 in Class AAA. Callaway is the school that graduated five-star recruit Terry Godwin, a freshman at Georgia.

"Cedric is not highly recruited right now," Napier said. "He had a relatively quiet junior year because he played behind Eddie Culpepper and didn't get many touches. Cedric is having a similar impact to Godwin [last season] on the offensive side of the ball. He gets to touch the ball a high percentage of the time, and he is an imminent threat to score."
