Paulding County quarterback Brantley Mauldin became the ninth player on record to pass for more than 500 yards in a game last week in a 38-35 victory over Villa Rica. Mauldin is the only sophomore ever to do it, according to the Georgia High School Football Historians Association.

Paulding County coach Scott Hamilton said his quarterback is a quick learner.

"Brantley is a very intelligent player," Hamilton said. "He can tell us what is going on after every series, which allows us to make adjustments on the fly during the game. Brantley also is very calm and doesn't get rattled at all."

Mauldin's performance, which gave him 1,014 yards passing in four games this season, was one of the top performances of last week.
