Buford at North Oconee

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Titan Stadium, Bogart

Records, rankings: Buford is 7-0 overall, 4-0 in Region 8-AAAA and No. 1; North Oconee is 5-2, 4-0 and unranked.

Last meeting: Buford won 13-0 in the second round of the 2012 Class AAA playoffs.

Three things to know: 1. These are two of the three unbeaten teams in 8-AAAA play. The other is Stephens County (6-1 4-0), which plays North Oconee next week and Buford the week after. 2. North Oconee RB Kawon Bryant has rushed for 1,110 yards and scored 13 touchdowns, giving him 86 scores in his career. He has reported offers from Georgia State, Cincinnati and Central Arkansas. QB Tate Adcock is 55-for-91 passing for 805 yards and six touchdowns. Zantravious Shields, the leading rusher last season for Prince Avenue Christian, is playing mostly in the secondary after transferring and is the team's top tackler. 3. Buford has won its four 8-AAAA games by an average score of 51-7, and starters have typically been pulled by the third quarter, so their individual statistics aren't outstanding. QB Luke Humphrey (38-for-62) has thrown for 588 yards. Joshua Thomas (399 yards) and Xavier Gantt (372) are the leading rushers and benefit from a big offense line that includes Nick Polino (committed to North Carolina) and Hunter Holland (Western Kentucky). The main defenders are linebackers Konnor Houston (offered by Georgia State and others) and Austin Smith (Tennessee), DT Quay Picou (Tennessee) and DB David Curry (Virginia).

Carver (Atlanta) at Mays

When, where: 8 p.m. Friday, Lakewood Stadium, Atlanta

Records, rankings: Carver is 6-1 overall, 2-0 in Region 6-AAAAA Div. B and No. 7; Mays is 5-2, 1-1 and unranked.

Last meeting: Carver won 20-19 in 2013.

Three things to know: 1. With a victory, Carver would clinch the No. 1 seed in the subregion and face the Division A winner in a 10th regular-season game for the region title. If Mays wins, then eighth-ranked Creekside - which beat Mays, but lost to Carver - is the subregion front-runner because of having the tiebreaker advantage if there is a three-way tie for first. Carver likely would finish third. 2. Junior RB Gregory Payton is the focal point of Carver's offense, which rushes about 75 percent of the time. Payton has 1,087 rushing yards (at least 100 in every game), 268 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. The team's best all-around player is DB/WR Aaron Williams, who has 67 solo tackles (twice that of any other Carver player). Williams is committed to Nebraska. 3. Mays' leading rusher is a Carver transfer, Charlie Patrick, who has 292 yards in a balanced offense with no one standout player. QB Asahnia Aderhold is 39-of-72 passing for 579 yards. Mays is ranked second in AAAAA scoring defense, allowing 11.9 points. DE Natrez Patrick, who is committed to Georgia, has a team-leading 32 tackles and nine sacks.

ELCA at Landmark Christian

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Bill Thorn Stadium, Fairburn

Records, rankings: Eagle's Landing Christian is 1-6 overall, 1-0 in Region 5-A and unranked: Landmark Christian is 6-1, 1-0 and No. 7.

Last meeting: Eagle's Landing Christian won 35-0 in 2013.

Three things to know: 1. Eagle's Landing Christian and Landmark Christian are two of the three unbeaten teams in five-team Region 5-A, and the winner will be tied for first place with Our Lady of Mercy, which is idle this week. Our Lady will play ELCA next week and Landmark Christian in the regular-season finale, both at home. 2. Despite its 1-6 record and No. 19 ranking in this week's private-school power ratings, ELCA remains a playoff threat. The Chargers have played the most difficult schedule in Class A, according to the Maxwell Ratings - their six losses came against teams with a combined record of 34-8. ELCA has won 32 consecutive region games. Players to watch are MLB Chase Burdette (74 tackles) and QB D.J. Hammond (500 yards rushing, 200 passing, in only three games). 3. Landmark Christian is the second-highest scoring team in Class A, averaging 42.3 point per game. The War Eagles are led by QB Stockton McGuire (845 yards and seven touchdowns passing, 412 yards and 10 TDs rushing) and RB Lofton Tidwell, who is having a breakout season. The sophomore has rushed for 1,018 yards and 14 TDs on 91 carries (11.2 ypc) and had a 395-yard game against Rockmart on Oct. 3.

Grayson at Dacula

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Barron Field, Dacula

Records, rankings: Grayson is 8-0 overall, 6-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA and No. 2; Dacula is 7-0, 5-0 and No. 3.

Last meeting: Dacula won 14-7 in 2013.

Three things to know: 1. Grayson can clinch its fifth region title in seven seasons with a victory. Dacula, which last won a region title in 2005, would need to win another game, against Archer or Brookwood. Dacula would hold a tiebreaker advantage in a three-way tie if the Falcons beat Grayson but lose to Archer. 2. Dacula has run (287.1 rushing yards per game) and stopped the run (74.9 rushing yards allowed per game) as well as any team in the state. The Falcons have completed only 21 passes. RB/CB C.J. Mays leads Dacula in rushing (633 yards on 60 carries) and interceptions (three, two returned for touchdowns). Also prominent on defense are LB Lawson Cook (team-leading 52 tackles), LB/NG Bijan Sirleaf (12 tackles for losses) and DE Jordan Sanders (6.5 sacks). 3. Dacula has no major college prospects. Grayson has five on defense alone - DL Justin Young (committed to Georgia), LB Mohamed Barry (Wisconsin), DB Jordan Hayes (Duke), LB Daniel Fennell (20 offers) and junior DE Mykelle McDaniel (Georgia offer).

Harris County at Carver (Columbus)

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium, Columbus

Records, rankings: Harris County is 5-2 overall, 3-0 in Region 1-AAAAA and unranked; Carver is 6-1, 3-0 and No. 5.

Last meeting: Carver won 42-0 in 2007.

Three things to know: 1. Carver is led by four players who are rated at least three-star recruits by Rivals. DE Mekhi Brown (committed to Alabama) and DB Khane Pass (Louisville) made first-team all-state in Class AAA last season. Jawon Pass (about 20 Division I offers) is ranked by 247Sports as nation's top dual-threat junior quarterback, and junior DB Javontay Smith has reported offers from Indiana and UAB. 2. Harris County is primarily a running team, averaging 324.4 yards per game rushing compared to 125.4 passing. Four players average at least six carries and 50 yards per game. Tae Crowder is the leader with 85 carries for 686 yards and 14 touchdowns, but he gets help from QB TaQuon Marshall (89-685-5), Jacob Rovig (71-362-2) and T.J. Chiles (43-352-3). Marshall is 50-for-87 passing for 878 yards and 12 TDs. 3. Harris County and Carver are tied for first place in 1-AAAAA and will be favored in their remaining games, so the winner is likely to be the region champion. These schools are located about 26 miles apart but have played just twice in history, with Carver winning both in 2006 and 2007. Carver has won seven consecutive region titles in lower classifications.

Hart County at Oconee County

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Warrior Stadium, Watkinsville

Records, rankings: Hart County is 7-0 overall, 3-0 in Region 8-AAA and No. 9; Oconee County is 7-0, 3-0 and unranked.

Last meeting: Hart County won 44-14 in 2013.

Three things to know: 1. Hart County has a balanced offense (199.0 yards per game passing, 187.1 rushing). QB Cameron Fouch has emerged as a candidate for Class AAA offensive player of the year. He is 79-of-123 passing for 1,393 yards and 14 touchdowns. Nine players have TD receptions. 2. Oconee County's offense is even more balanced - 182.1 passing, 182.3 rushing. QB Zeb Noland is 50-of-96 passing for 1,053 yards and eight touchdowns. Christian Casey is the leading rusher with 792 yards on 119 carries. Oconee County's defense has been outstanding, allowing 12.7 points per game, and only 7.0 in the first three quarters. 3. The winner of this game will be tied with idle Jefferson (8-0, 4-0) for the region lead.

Both teams are 7-0 for the first time since 2001, when Hart finished 12-1 and Oconee finished 11-1. Oconee County PK Mahran Ahmadipour kicked a 46-yard field goal as time expired in the 33-31 victory over Morgan County last week. Oconee's start is the more surprising under first-year coach Travis Noland, who was 7-2 against Hart County while at Stephens County. Noland's Warriors are the only undefeated team in any classification that is not ranked. Their schedule is rated the 64th-toughest in AAA by the Maxwell Ratings.

Norcross at Peachtree Ridge

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Lions' Den, Suwanee

Records, rankings: Norcross is 6-1 overall, 4-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA and No. 5; Peachtree Ridge is 5-2, 3-1 and unranked.

Last meeting: Norcross won 24-20 in 2013.

Three things to know: 1. Norcross has sole possession of first place in the region, and Peachtree Ridge is tied for second with North Gwinnett, Collins Hill and Mill Creek. Norcross and Peachtree Ridge have played North Gwinnett (Norcross won, Peachtree Ridge lost), and both face Collins Hill and Mill Creek in the final two weeks of the season. No team other than Norcross, North Gwinnett or Peachtree Ridge has won this region since current 8-AAAAAA member Dacula won it in 2005. 2. Norcross has a balanced offense that averages 165.7 yards passing and 163.1 rushing. Quarterbacks Griffin Barker and Jacob Gassert are a combined 80-for-144 for 1,131 yards with six touchdowns, but Barker has thrown seven interceptions. Junior Jamir Billings is the leading rusher with 641 yards and eight touchdowns on 119 carries. 3. Peachtree Ridge relies more on the passing game. Senior quarterback Chance Thrasher has completed 122 of 204 attempts and is third in Gwinnett County in yardage with 1,718 and second in touchdowns with 19. But the Lions can run the ball, too. They average 186.9 yards rushing, led by senior Na'Ceem Antenor's 554 yards on 100 carries.

South Forsyth at Alpharetta

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Raider Stadium, Alpharetta

Records, rankings: South Forsyth is 5-2 overall, 5-1 in Region 6-AAAAAA and unranked; Alpharetta is 6-1, 6-0 and unranked.

Last meeting: Alpharetta won 38-16 in 2013.

Three things to know: 1. Alpharetta is the only remaining unbeaten team in 6-AAAAAA play and is one game ahead of South Forsyth. A victory would leave Alpharetta needing just one win in its final two games (against 5-2 Northview and 1-6 North Forsyth) to claim its third region title in four years. South Forsyth probably needs to beat Alpharetta and win its final two games (vs. 0-7 Johns Creek and 4-3 Lambert) to capture its first region title since 1997. 2. South Forsyth RB Tyler LaFlamme was held about 40 yards below his rushing average last week, finishing with 134 yards and both touchdowns in a 27-14 loss to West Forsyth. Still, he remains the top rusher in Class AAAAAA with 1,189 yards. LaFlamme is the offensive focus, but the War Eagles also have a productive passing game, led by QB Matt White (almost 1,300 yards). South Forsyth averages 39 points per game, fourth-best in AAAAAA. 3. Alpharetta has a balanced offense, as evidenced by its 235 yards rushing and 232 passing in a 56-7 victory against Chattahoochee last week. QB Austin King has passed for 1,321 yards (unofficially), and RBs Miles Smith and Lemuel Cobbs both rush for about 70 yards per game.

Westlake at Hughes

When, where: 3 p.m. Saturday, Panther Stadium, Fairburn

Records, rankings: Westlake is 5-1 overall, 4-0 in Region 3-AAAAAA and unranked; Hughes is 6-1, 4-0 and No. 4.

Last meeting: Hughes won 30-0 in 2013.

Three things to know: 1. The winner of this game will be the Region 3 champion barring an 0-2 finish against teams currently with losing records. Hughes, the two-time defending region champion, has won the past three meetings between these two rather easily. Westlake's only region titles came in 2002 and 2005. These south Fulton County schools are eight miles apart. 2. Westlake is allowing 5.5 points per game, fewest in Class AAAAAA. Nigel Warrior, a junior safety with 12 scholarship offers, including one from Georgia, has intercepted a pass, forced a fumble and blocked two punts. CB Ronnie Blackmon, also a dangerous receiver and punt returner, is another junior with several Division I offers. DE/LB Julian Jones is committed to Arkansas State. But the defensive MVP has probably been LB Jamal Angrish, the team leader in solo tackles (32) and sacks (seven). On offense, QB Dakota Rocker had the best game of his career last week against Douglas County, passing for 261 yards and four touchdowns. 3. Hughes has become a passing team this season with the emergence of sophomore QB Isaiah Green, who is 77-of-151 for 1,111 yards and 12 touchdowns, at least one in each game. Kenyon Houston, a possession receiver, is the top target with 42 catches for 327 yards. He also has a team-leading six interceptions. Hughes is most noted for its defense. LB Montravious Adams has committed to Auburn, and DE D'Andre Walker has an offer from Auburn and several other major D-I programs.

Woodward Academy at Sandy Creek

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, The Battlefield, Tyrone

Records, rankings: Woodward Academy is 6-1 overall, 2-0 in Region 5-AAAA and No. 6; Sandy Creek is 7-0, 2-0 and No. 2.

Last meeting: Sandy Creek won 26-0 in 2005.

Three things to know: 1. Woodward Academy and Sandy Creek are the only remaining teams that are undefeated in 5-AAAA, a region that has had five of its six teams ranked in the top 10 at some point this season, and the winner will be the favorite to win the region title. Sandy Creek has won six consecutive region championships - a run that also includes three state titles - and eight overall. Woodward Academy has won 11 region titles but none since 1997. 2. Junior Elijah Holyfield gets the bulk of the work for a balanced Woodward Academy offense that averages 178.6 yards rushing and 151.7 passing. He has carried 126 times for 984 yards and 16 touchdowns. Mack Green (35 carries, 138 yards) is the only other player with more than 10 carries. QB Jes Sutherland is 52-for-79 passing for 807 yards and 12 touchdowns with no interceptions. 3. Sandy Creek is more of a running team (227.6 rushing, 89.9 passing) and relies on RB Eric Swinney. The senior, who has committed to Ole Miss, has rushed for 1,094 yards and 13 touchdowns on 170 carries. DE Trent Sellers (committed to Georgia Tech) is the leader on defense with 16 solo and 56 total tackles.
