Top 10 games of Week 2

Three things to know: 1. This is the prime-time game in the Chick-Fil-A Battle of the Borders, a four-game event Saturday at Hallford Stadium matching teams from DeKalb County against schools from Florida. Other games include Marist vs. Coconut Creek at 11:45 a.m., Cedar Grove vs. Hallandale at 2:30 p.m., and Tucker vs. Godby at 5:30 p.m. 2. American Heritage, of Plantation, Fla., opened its season with a 19-7 victory against IMG Academy, which was ranked No. 2 nationally by USA Today. Trailing 13-7, IMG appeared to score the winning touchdown in the closing seconds, but the play was called back for a holding penalty. American Heritage then returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown on the game's final play. 3. Stephenson junior running back Jaylen Marson-Knight rushed for 153 yards and three touchdowns in a 53-22 victory against Arabia Mountain last week. The Jaguars also got three TDs on interception returns by DB Hassan Little (57 yards), DL Aaron Sterling (13 yards) and DB Matthew Ellis-White (33 yards).

Dalton at Calhoun 

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Phil Reeve Stadium, Calhoun

Records, rankings: Dalton is 1-0 and unranked in Class AAAAA; Calhoun is 0-0 and No. 1 in AAA.

Last meeting: Calhoun won 21-14 in 2014.

Three things to know: 1. Dalton is 34-9-1 all-time against Calhoun in a series that dates to 1925, but Calhoun has won the past six meetings. Dalton won 21 consecutive games against the Yellow Jackets from 1961 to 1986, holding Calhoun to eight points or less in 17 of those games. 2. Dalton got an unexpected boost from RB Darien Hill in its opener, a 35-21 victory over Scottsboro (Ala.) last week. The senior, who was on the scout the past two years and did not have a varsity carry last season, rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries against Scottsboro. Dalton had 280 yards rushing as a team. 3. Calhoun QB Kaelan Riley was named the Georgia Sports Writers Association Class AAA offensive player of the year in 2014. He passed for 2,509 yards and rushed for 762 yards for the undefeated AAA champions. Riley was one of four Calhoun players on GHSF Daily's preseason all-state team, joining teammates Jack DeFoor (OL), Landon Rice (DL) and Jireh Wilson (LB).

Eagle's Landing Christian at Stockbridge

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Tiger Stadium, Stockbridge

Records, rankings: Eagle's Landing Christian is 1-0 and No. 1 in Class A; Stockbridge is 1-0 and No. 3 in AAAAA.

Last meeting: Stockbridge won 33-3 in 2014.

Three things to know: 1. These are the best two teams in Henry County, according to the Maxwell Ratings, which have Stockbridge at No. 1 and ELCA at No. 2, ahead of the other nine public schools, each of which play in AAAAA or AAAA. 2. Stockbridge returned 13 of 24 starters from its 2014 Class AAAAA semifinal team. That includes AJC Super 11 DE Charles Wiley. Stockbridge won its opener against Central of Phenix City, Ala., on QB Malachi Brown's 30-yard TD pass to Demitrius Sullivan in the final four minutes. Central was shut out after returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown. 3. ELCA beat North Florida Christian (ranked No. 3 in Florida's preseason Class 2A poll) 35-0 in its opener. LB Chase Burdette (9 tackles) and DE Dalton Hardemon (11 tackles) led a defense that allowed just 106 total yards. Trevor Gear rushed for 81 yards, and QB D.J. Hammond scored two touchdowns.

Grayson at Gainesville 

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Bobby Gruhn Field at City Park, Gainesville

Records, rankings: Grayson is 0-0 and No. 4 in Class AAAAAA; Gainesville is 0-0 and No. 7 in AAAAA.

Last meeting: Grayson won 39-0 in 2014.

Three things to know: 1. Grayson returns six starters from an offense that averaged 31 points per game for team that finished 10-2 in 2014. The returnees include QB Chase Brice (20 touchdown passes), RB Cameryn Brent (1,194 yards, committed to Valdosta State), TE Ryan Carter (committed to Charlotte) and three linemen. Five starters return on defense. 2. Gainesville's Messiah Dorsey, a former wide receiver who had 68 catches for 873 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2014, will take over at quarterback for Mikey Gonzalez, who graduated. Gonzalez passed for 3,180 yards and 38 TDs last season. Transfer Tae Turner, who led Lakeview Academy in rushing last season, is expected to fill Dorsey's old spot at receiver. 3. Grayson limited Gainesville to 187 yards of total offense last year in handing the Red Elephants their most-lopsided loss since 2011. Brice passed for 190 yards and two touchdowns, and Brent rushed for 161 yards on 24 carries. Grayson finished with 450 yards of total offense.

Plant (Fla.) at Colquitt County

When, where: 8 p.m. Friday, Mack Tharpe Memorial Stadium, Moultrie

Records, rankings: Plant is 0-0 and No. 4 in Florida's Class 7A; Colquitt County is 1-0 and No. 3 in Georgia's AAAAAA.

Last meeting: This is the teams' first meeting.

Three things to know: 1. Plant is the Tampa high school best known in this state as the alma mater of former Georgia QB Aaron Murray. The Panthers came to Georgia last year and lost to Lowndes 20-14. Plant is highly regarded this season despite the season-ending injury to QB Rex Culpepper, who is committed to Syracuse. 2. Plant replaced Hoover (Ala.) on Colquitt County's schedule this year. Colquitt defeated Hoover, the eventual Alabama Class 7A champion, 35-14 and is 5-2 against out-of-state opponents under coach Rush Propst. 3. Colquitt County returns QB Chase Parrish from its championship team, and he threw for 191 yards in a 45-14 victory over North Gwinnett last week. Colquitt also stuffed North's run game, allowing only 70 yards, and sacked North quarterbacks four times. The only big area of concern is Colquitt's own run game, which was held to 117 yards on 36 carries, with no single runner over 40 yards.

Prince Avenue Christian at Aquinas 

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aquinas Stadium, Augusta

Records, rankings: Prince Avenue Christian is 0-0 and No. 7 in Class A; Aquinas is 1-0 and No. 6 in A.

Last meeting: Aquinas won 33-18 in 2014.

Three things to know: 1. Aquinas (7-A) and Prince Avenue (8-A) both won region championships in 2014. Aquinas went undefeated in the regular season and lost to eventual champion Mount Paran Christian in the Class A private-school semifinals. Prince Avenue finished in a three-way tie for first place in its region but got the title on tiebreakers before losing in the state quarterfinals. 2. Prince Avenue LB Zack Ragle and OL Rob Kraeling were named to the preseason all-state team. Ragle had 91 tackles, seven sacks and four blocked kicks and was the Region 8-A defensive player of the year in 2014. Kraeling is a 6-foot-9, 267-pound senior who has committed to Duke. 3. Aquinas QB Liam Welch is a third-year starter who led his team to the 2013 state championship and a 27-1 record the past two seasons. He passed for 1,973 yards with 23 touchdowns and four interceptions in 2014. Welch was joined on the preseason all-state team by teammate Will Evans, a 6-foot-3, 255-pound defensive lineman who has committed to Ohio.

St. Pius at Blessed Trinity

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Blessed Trinity Stadium, Roswell

Records, rankings: St. Pius is 0-0 and No. 6 in Class AAAA; Blessed Trinity is 0-0 and No. 2 in AAA.

Last meeting: Blessed Trinity won 42-20 in 2014.

Three things to know: 1. Blessed Trinity RB Milton Shelton rushed for 150 yards in the 2014 game as the Titans beat St. Pius for the second consecutive season. St. Pius leads the series 5-2. 2. Blessed Trinity returns its yardage leaders in passing (Conor Davis, 1,790 yards) rushing (Shelton, 1,356) and receiving (Matthew Higgins, 526). Also back are LB Garrett Dupuis and LB Logan Craighead, the two leading tacklers after graduated Class AAA defensive player of the year Pat Jasinski (Central Florida). Blessed Trinity coach Tim McFarlin calls OL Matthew Castner "possibly the best offensive lineman I've  coached." 3. St. Pius returns QB Reed Egan and another 15 players who started or played prominently in the 2014 AAAA title game against Buford. Those include backs Ransom Klinger (1,074 all-purpose yards) and Grant Holloman and T Chad Nelson. St. Pius rushed for more than 4,000 yards and passed for less than 1,000 last season.

Vidalia at West Laurens

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Horseshoe Stadium, Dexter

Records, rankings: Vidalia is 1-0 and No. 6 in Class AA; West Laurens is 1-0 and No. 8 in AAAA.

Last meeting: Vidalia won 30-17 in 2014.

Three things to know: 1. In the 2014 game, Vidalia QB Jordan Black passed for 123 yards and rushed for 169 and had a hand in four touchdowns. Vidalia has won 11 consecutive games in a series that it leads 13-2. 2. Black is now at The Citadel, and Vidalia's other 2014 all-state player, LB Nathan McBride, was lost to a season-ending wrist injury suffered in a preseason car accident. Shon Jones rushed for 160 yards and scored all of Vidalia's touchdowns on runs of 21, 54 and 60 yards in a 21-0 victory over Swainsboro last week. 3. West Laurens had its best finish (9-4) in 20 years in 2014 under Stacy Nobles, a Laurens County native who became head coach in 2011. Last week, Darius Bradford, playing only the first half, rushed for 99 yards on nine carries and West Laurens allowed only 45 yards rushing in a 45-0 victory over Thomasville. Bradford, a junior, rushed for 1,392 yards and 12 touchdowns last season.

Warner Robins at Peach County 

When, where: 8 p.m. Friday, Anderson Stadium, Fort Valley

Records, rankings: Warner is 0-0 and unranked in Class AAAAA; Peach County is 0-0 and No. 7 in AAA.

Last meeting: Peach County won 19-0 in 2014.

Three things to know: 1. Warner Robins returns 13 starters from a team that went 6-5 last season and lost in the first round of the AAAAA playoffs. QB Ivan Corbin passed for 922 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed for 650 yards and 11 TDs. WR/DB Marquez Callaway is receiving interest from Georgia, Notre Dame and Tennessee, among others. 2. Peach County returns six starters from a defense that allowed just 7.9 points per game in 2014. DB Tyrique McGhee was named to the all-state team by the GSWA last season and has committed to Georgia. The Trojans' new defensive coordinator is Lee Campbell, brother of head coach Chad Campbell. Lee Campbell was head coach for Hawkinsville's 2003 and 2004 state championships. 3. Peach County's victory last season marked the first time Warner Robins had been held scoreless since 2010, when it was shut out in consecutive games to start a 2-8 season. Peach County leads the series 4-3.

Westminster at Lovett

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Martin E. Kilpatrick Stadium, Atlanta

Records, rankings: Westminster is 0-0 and No. 3 in Class AAA; Lovett is 0-1 and No. 9 in AA.

Last meeting: Westminster won 13-10 in 2014.

Three things to know: 1. Westminster leads the series 17-10, but it is 5-5 since Mike Muschamp became Lovett's coach in 2005. In the 2014 game, Lovett had a 10-6 lead and a first down at the Westminster 34 with 5:37 left, but Westminster made a stop and drove for the winning touchdown. Isaiah Malcome rushed for 130 yards. 2. Malcome, the Class AAA offensive player of the year, returns. He rushed for 1,642 yards last season. The only other all-region players that returned for Westminster are QB/FS Rankin Woley (LSU baseball commit) and P Blake Gillikin (Penn State). 3. Lovett graduated 33 seniors and 21 starters from its AA quarterfinal team. After a 24-0 loss to Pace Academy, Lovett is barely holding onto its streak of 44 weeks in the Top 10. Two players to watch are RB Jay Harris (826 yards rushing last season) and LB/FB Sam Parry.
