The Leaderboard: Mount Vernon’s Kytle first to hit 2,000 yards passing

Blake Kytle of Mount Vernon Presbyterian is the state's first passer to throw for 2,000 yards this season.

The junior two-year starter threw for 400 yards and three touchdowns last week in a 52-30 loss to seventh-ranked Wesleyan in a Class A private-school game.

Kytle doesn't have prototypical size for a quarterback. He's 5 feet, 7 inches and 160 pounds, but his accuracy and mind are weapons.

"Blake does a great job of preparing each week for opponents," Mount Vernon coach Wayne Dabbs said. "We ask a lot of our quarterback in our system. Most plays we have three options, and Blake really does a great job of preparing for those options based off what we see from film."

Mount Vernon is only 3-4, but three losses are to ranked opponents, the other to an unranked 6-1 team, so Kytle's yardage isn't being put up against weak opponents.

His main receiver, junior Andrew Douglas, ranks third in the state in receiving yards. He had 15 receptions for 200 yards against Wesleyan and has 55 catches on the season for 855 yards.

Here are the state's rushing, passing and receiving yards leaders.
