Gary Hawkins of Screven County rushed for a career-high 255 yards last week in a 26-20 victory over Butler and moved into second place statewide in season rushing at 1,478 yards. Hawkins has gone over 200 yards rushing five times this season and run for 3,064 yards in his career.
Also making a big move was North Atlanta senior T.K. Mack, who ran for 251 yards against Dunwoody. That was Mack's eighth consecutive game over 100 yards rushing.
In passing, Gunner Stockton of Rabun County is now the leader in Class AA and sixth overall with 2,139 yards. He also surpassed 5,000 for his career last week against Social Circle.
It might be interesting to compare Stockton, rated the No. 1 quarterback prospect nationally among sophomores by 247Sports, to Trevor Lawrence at the same stages in their careers. Stockton has thrown for 5,056 yards after eight games as a sophomore. Lawrence had thrown for 5,385 yards at that point, but in two more games total, as Lawrence played 15 as a freshman while Stockton played 13. Lawrence, now at Clemson, holds the record of 13,902 yards for a Georgia high school career.
