The Brookwood boys, last year’s Class AAAAAA champions, won the Blue Angels Southern Invitational in Pensacola, Fla., for the second straight year. The Broncos beat Spruce Creek, Ala., 6-3, and Ocean Springs, Miss., 9-0, then eased past Eastside Gainesville, Fla., 5-4 in the championship game.

The Broncos were led by Zach Jennings, who was 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles. Alzaeem Ukani and Nick Porcelli were undefeated in doubles play. Others who played well for Brookwood (8-0) were Ryan Pridgeon, Stephan George and Ben Chong.

Alpharetta girls win Kennesaw Mountain Invitational

Alpharetta, which finished second in Class AAAAAA a year ago, won the Kennesaw Mountain Invitational. The Raiders beat North Cobb, Kennesaw Mountain and Hillgrove to win the title. Winning in singles were Christina Oudin, Kaitlyn Thornhill and Amanda Wang. Winning in doubls were Alex Webb, Maryn Smith, Miranda Fiorillo, Lexi Kiabunde and Sydney Kiabunde.

The Hillgrove girls, a semifinalist a year ago, opened the Region 4-AAAAAA schedule with a 3-2 win over North Paulding. Taylor Cranfield won the deciding match with a victory at No. 2 singles. … The Mount Paran Christian boys, a state semifinalist last year, swept North Cobb Christian 5-0 in the Region 6-A opener. … The South Effingham boys improved to 7-0 with a 5-0 win over Statesboro. Kyle Howell plays No. 1 singles for South Effingham. … Benedictine improved to 6-0 by beating Vidalia 5-0.
