The state playoffs will begin with its First Round playoff window, which starts on Monday, April 15 and closes on Wednesday, April 17 for Class AA-AAAAAAA. This year’s playoff windows are especially important following the GHSA’s announcement last week.
The announcement addressed the need to condense this year’s playoff schedule in order to book the Rome Tennis Center to host the championships on Saturday, May 4. It can be expected that all First Round matches will be played on Monday or Tuesday, because if the final day of the window is rained out there will be no makeup dates. The GHSA has issued warning that the final day is to be used only as a last resort.
The playoff field has not been completely set in stone yet, but the majority of the seeding has been finalized. Thursday night was ripe with action in Marietta with the Region 6-AAAAAAA Tournament. The North Paulding girls defeated North Cobb to win the program’s first-ever region title and the North Cobb boys defeated Kennesaw Mountain 3-1 to take the top seed.
