Callaway at Washington County

Last meeting: Washington County won 28-0 in the second round of the 2012 Class AAA playoffs.
Three things to know: 1. Callaway won its first-round game without QB Terry Godwin (Georgia commitment), who has an ankle injury. Sophomore Dylan Johnson filled in and threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Sanders in a 35-7 victory against Ringgold. The Cavaliers also got two rushing touchdowns from Eddie Culpepper (32 and 50 yards) and Cedric Maynard (5 and 59). 2. Washington County QB A.J. Gray had another devastating performance in a 73-28 victory against Jackson of Atlanta in the first round. He ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns, passed for 144 yards and two TDs and set up a score with a 61-yard interception return. Gray rushed for 1,161 yards, passed for 1,278 yards and had a hand in 41 touchdowns during the regular season. 3. Callaway's defense ranks 15th among the remaining Class AAA teams, giving up 20.8 points per game. It will be tested by an offense averaging a state-best 54.2 points per game. Washington County has scored at least 50 points in seven consecutive games and can tie a state record by doing it again this week.

Three things to know: 1. Zeb Noland threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Roques Dowdy with 59 seconds remaining to give Oconee County a 42-38 victory over West Hall in the first round. Oconee County led 35-14 at halftime but gave up 24 unanswered points before driving 93 yards for the winning score. Noland is 99-for-178 for 1,880 yards and 13 touchdowns for the season. 2. Pierce County
also has a good passer Stetson Bennett, who is 122-of-215 for 1,676 yards and 20 touchdowns. Terell Carter has 63 catches for 966 yards and 13 touchdowns. Joshua Henderson is the leading rusher with 899 yards. The Bears have won 12 consecutive home games since a loss to Peach County in the second round of the 2012 playoffs. 3. Oconee County, in its first season under former Stephens County coach Travis Noland, is in the second round for the first time since 2004, which also was the last time it finished with a non-losing record. Pierce County is in the second round for the third consecutive season but has not reached the quarterfinals since 2002.

Three things to know: 1. Adairsville won a playoff game last week for the first time since 2011 and is seeking its first quarterfinal berth since 2001. Blessed Trinity is in the second round for the fourth consecutive season but advanced to the quarterfinals just one in the previous three trips. 2. Adairsville ranks third in scoring offense among the remaining Class AAA teams with 44.6 points per game. The Tigers have averaged 55 points in their last five games, including a 52-14 victory against Cedartown in the first round. Sidnee Johnson rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries, and Marcus Childers passed for 161 yards and ran for 67 last week. 3. Blessed Trinity QB Conor Davis has passed for 1,454 yards this season, but the Titans get about 62 percent of their offense from the running game. Joe Anderson rushed for a season-high 148 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries in a 48-13 victory against Hephzibah last week. LB Pat Jasinski (committed to Central Florida) is the team leader in tackles, tackles for losses and interceptions.

Three things to know: 1. Dodge County won a playoff game last week for the first time since 2007 and is trying to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 1999. Jefferson is 8-1 in the playoffs the past three seasons, a stretch that includes the 2012 Class AA championship. 2. Dodge County was held to five first downs in its 14-3 victory against Westside of Macon in the first round, according to the Macon Telegraph. The Indians scored on a 43-yard pass from Landon Martin to Roscoe Wilcox and a 20-yard interception return by Cameron Young. Dodge County is tied for 13th in scoring among the remaining AAA teams, averaging 30 points per game. 3. Jefferson QB Evan Shirreffs had almost 200 yards passing in the first half in a 38-7 victory against Franklin County last week. He is 133-of-183 passing for 2,246 yards and 21 touchdowns. Jefferson also has a 1,000-yard rusher, Sammy Williams (1,168 yards). The Dragons have held seven of 11 opponents to eight points or less and not allowed more than 16 in any game.

Three things to know: 1. Calhoun has won 10 or more games for 11 consecutive seasons and is trying to reach the quarterfinal round for the seventh straight year. Cedar Grove is making its fifth consecutive playoff appearance but hasn't advanced past the season round since 2010. 2. Cedar Grove trailed 7-0 early but stormed back for a 45-7 victory over Westside of Augusta in the first round. Labron Morris had touchdown runs of 10 and 2 yards midway through the first quarter to put the Saints ahead for good. Morris rushed for 1,404 yards and 14 touchdowns on 184 carries in the regular season for a team that averaged 242.8 yards rushing and 131.7 passing. 3. Calhoun has the No. 1 defense (8.0 points per game) and No. 2 offense (46.4) among the remaining Class AAA teams. Junior LB Jireh Wilson and senior LB Austin Bennett are the team's leading tacklers. Wilson had five tackles for losses and Bennett returned a fumble 28 yards for a TD in a 43-14 first-round win against Rockmart, which had just 10 yards in the first half and trailed 43-0 at halftime.

Three things to know: 1. Appling County is in the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season but has advanced past the second round just once during that stretch. Elbert County has reached the quarterfinals just twice since winning the Class AA championship in 1995. 2. Appling County was the No. 4 seed from its subregion heading into the 1-AAA play-in games, but the Pirates knocked off subregion B winner Southeast Bulloch to reach the playoffs before upsetting Region 2 champion Peach County 14-7 last week. Appling County took advantage of seven Peach County turnovers, including a bad snap on a punt that was recovered in the end zone by Devon Moore. 3. Elbert County QB Mecole Hardman rushed for 232 yards on 14 carries in a 28-18 victory over Lumpkin County. He also had an interception and broke up a pass. Hardman missed six games with a meniscus injury, but he has 768 yards and seven touchdowns on 67 carries for the season. The Blue Devils' leading rusher is Rantious "Boochie" Reed, who has 1,248 yards and 19 TDs on 149 carries.

Last meeting: Westminster won 33-12 in 1993.
Three things to know: 1. Westminster is trying to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 2003. The Wildcats are 0-7 in second-round games since then. Central's program has been revived by second-year coach Rico Zackery. The Lions had just two state playoff victories since winning state titles in 1986 and '87, but they are 21-3 overall and 3-1 in the postseason under Zachery. 2. Playing without starting QB Rankin Woley, who missed the game with an injury, Westminster rushed for 259 yards and five touchdowns in a 35-12 first-round victory against Laney. Zay Malcome ran for 138 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown, and had 99 yards on kickoff returns in three quarters. The Wildcats attempted just five passes, completing one for 6 yards. 3. Central averages 320.8 yards rushing and attempts only about five passes per game. The leaders are Kyle Terrell (84 carries, 1,024 yards, 13 touchdowns), Jayleen Terry (108-965-10) and Damarius Owensby (81-635-9). Terrell rushed for 106 yards and Owensby had 99 as part of a 362-yard night in a 42-14 victory against Sonoraville in the first round.

Three things to know: 1. Hart County is trying to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 2006, which is also the last time the Bulldogs won 10 games in a season. Cook's most recent quarterfinal appearance was a 21-14 loss to Buford in 2010. The Hornets won one playoff game in 2011 and lost in the first round the past two seasons. 2. Hart County QB Cameron Fouch was 17-for-28 passing for 274 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 48 yards in a 42-14 victory against East Hall last week. For the season, Fouch is 146-for-235 passing for 2,422 yards and 21 TDs. His top target is Anthony Turner, who has 40 receptions for 645 yards and seven TDs. 3. Cook rushed for 490 yards and six touchdowns and had three players with 100 or more yards in a 42-14 victory over Central of Macon in the first round. Jay Smith finished with 178 yards and two touchdowns on 17 attempts. Tavian Allen rushed for 149 yards and had touchdown runs of 41 and 3 yards, and Corey McCall ran for 100 yards and two TDs.
