Sept 13, 2015

Defending champion Colquitt County is back on top of the Class AAAAAA rankings after No. 1 Archer and No. 2 McEachern lost on Friday.

Colquitt has won 19 straight games, and each of its four 2015 victories have been by margins of 30 points or more. Colquitt is ranked as high as No. 5 nationally by two polls.
Archer, the 2014 runner-up, dropped to No. 4 after a 26-24 loss to previous No. 4 Grayson, which won on a field goal in the final 10 seconds. Grayson moved up to No. 2.
McEachern, a week after ending Buford’s 42-game winning streak, lost to unranked Peachtree Ridge 9-6 and fell to No. 7.
There are eight new teams in the rankings this week.
Norcross (3-0) is back in AAAAAA, and Etowah is out after losing 35-10 to Walton, which moved up three spots to No. 5. Walton is 4-0 after missing the playoffs in 2014.
In AAAA, Eastside, St. Pius and Eagle’s Landing replaced West Laurens, Burke County and Jonesboro.
Eastside, making its first Top 10 appearance since early in the 2012 season under first-year coach Troy Hoff, routed Griffin 37-12. Eagle’s Landing beat previous No. 10 Jonesboro 17-7. St. Pius is ranked despite a 1-2 record. Its losses are to No. 3 Woodward Academy of AAAA and No. 2 Blessed Trinity of AA.
Also newly ranked are undefeated teams Adairsville and Dodge County (AAA), Wesleyan (AA) and Clinch County (A). Out are Hart County and Cook (AAA), Lamar County (AA) and Commerce (A).
There are only four games this week between ranked teams. The headliner is No. 4 Jones County at No. 1 Northside-Warner Robins in AAAAA. Jones County upset Northside 45-37 last season, but Northside won 11 straight games from there to a state title.
Other games between ranked opponents are No. 9 Glynn Academy at No. 10 Coffee in AAAAA, No. 10 Macon County at No. 2 Fitzgerald in AA and No. 10 Clinch County at No. 6 Irwin County in A.
In metro Atlanta, Grayson plays at unranked Parkview in a Region 8-AAAAAA game between unbeaten teams.
