1. North Murray 31, Calhoun 7: Calhoun's state-record streak of 119 consecutive victories in games that count in region standings was broken by a team that was projected as a 33-point underdog by the computer Maxwell Ratings. North Murray (opened in 2009) was 0-7 in its history against Calhoun, with no game decided by fewer than 24 points.

2. Holy Innocents' 42, Eagle's Landing Christian 41: Holy Innocents' overtime win ended ELCA's streaks of 59 straight victories in region games (fourth-longest in state history) and 41 consecutive wins against Class A opponents. ELCA, a 36-point favorite, is the four-time defending Class A private-school champion and has won nine straight Region 5-A titles.

3. Atkinson County 21, Charlton County 20: Atkinson County ended a 15-game losing streak in the series, beating Charlton County for the first time since 1991. Charlton, which beat the Rebels 37-12 last season, is 1-3 for the first time since 2016. Atkinson County (2-2), an 11-point underdog, hasn't won more than three games in a season since 2014.

4. South Effingham 31, West Laurens 30: South Effingham, which was 4-28 the past three years and had its last winning season in 2015, improved to 4-0 with a win over a West Laurens team that was projected as a 16-point favorite. West Laurens was seeking its first 4-0 start since 1990 but fell out of the AAAA top 10 after a one-week stay.

5. Callaway 56, Troup 45: Callaway, the smallest of the three public high schools in Troup County, has now beaten both of its county rivals in one season for the first time in program history. The Cavaliers beat LaGrange 56-10 two weeks ago. The 101 combined points in the Troup game set school records for both teams. Callaway was a four-point underdog.

Worth noting: Cambridge beat nine-point favorite Centennial 29-7 for its first victory in four meetings with the Knights, who won 69-35 last year. Centennial was the Region 7-AAAAAA runner-up the past three seasons but fell to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the region. ... Central (Carrollton) avenged a 45-0 loss from 2018 when it beat Heard County 33-14. Heard, the defending Class AA champion, is 0-4 for the first time since 2001, when the Braves went to the playoffs despite an 0-10 regular season. ... East Coweta, which started the season 0-3 against three teams with a current combined record of 12-1, beat North Cobb 42-23 for its first victory of the year. North Cobb came into the game undefeated (3-0) and was an 18-point favorite. ... Landmark Christian, which was 0-3 this season and had won just three of 23 games since reaching the state quarterfinals in 2016, opened play in Region 5-A with a 13-12 victory over Strong Rock Christian, a 20-point favorite. ... South Paulding, a 5-25 team over the past three seasons, is 3-1 overall and tied for first place in 5-AAAAAA after a 27-19 victory over Douglas County, an 11-point favorite. Douglas County was the region runner-up the past two seasons.
