The first Class A Power Ratings of the season were released this week. The North Cobb Christian and Treutlen boys, and the St. Francis and Turner County girls are at the top.

The basketball power ratings work much simpler than the football system. In basketball, teams are awarded five points for a win, plus a point for each of its opponents wins. The total points are then divided by the team's total number of games.

Unlike football, no extra points are awarded for playing a team from a higher classification. Additionally, games against teams playing a non-region schedule as well as those against teams from out of state are not counted. However, like in football, region champions are seeded first when the top 16 teams are determined after region tournaments are completed.
