Miller County approved Mary Persons offensive coordinator Jeremy Rayburn as head football coach at a school board meeting Monday.

Rayburn has been on Mary Persons’ staff since 2007 and was part of seven straight winning seasons and the school’s first 10-win seasons (2012, 2013) since 1998. Rayburn is a Thomasville native who will be an hour from home at Miller County.

‘’Miller County has always had good tradition, and when I got down there, I really liked the people,’’ Rayburn said. ‘’They’ve made a commitment to get the program back on the map. My wife and I are from Thomasville. I played football there. Putting our kids closer to our families was part of it too.’’

Rayburn  has coached at Franklin County (2005-06), Thomasville (2002-04) and Pickens (2001). This will be Rayburn’s first head-coaching job.

Miller County was 51-30 in seven seasons, including 4-6 in 2013, under Frank Killingsworth, who resigned to pursue other coaching opportunities. Killingsworth had been at the South Georgia school for 18 seasons as an assistant or head coach.
