Lee County, which defeated Northside-Warner Robins 14-0 Tuesday to win its second consecutive Class AAAAAA championship, will get to extend its season by one more game.
The Trojans have been chosen to participate in the GEICO State Champions Bowl Series and will host St. Frances Academy of Baltimore on Dec. 22 at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised by ESPNU.
St. Frances is the top-rated team in Maryland and among the top 10 in several national polls, including No. 4 in the CalPreps rankings. It has outscored its opponents 434-18 (one game was a forfeit victory).
St. Frances has six players ranked in the ESPN 300 and Junior 300, including the No. 1 inside linebacker, Alabama-committed Shane Lee. The Panthers defeated Bingham (Utah) in the Bowl Series last year.
Valdosta, one of Lee County’s rivals in Region 1-AAAAAA, participated in the Bowl Series in 2016 after winning the state title. The Wildcats played Chandler (Ariz.) in Texas and lost 44-24.
Lee County’s victory on Tuesday completed the school’s first 15-0 season and extended its winning streak to a school-record 21 games. The Trojans are ranked No. 55 nationally by CalPreps.
