LaGrange hired Callaway offensive coordinator Matt Napier as head football coach Friday.

Napier, a member of Callaway’s staff the past 14 seasons, will replace Chuck Gibbs, who was let go after two 2-8 finishes. LaGrange was 0-10 before Gibbs’ arrived and has lost 23 straight Region 5-AAAA games. LaGrange won state titles in 2001, 2003 and 2004 but hasn’t had a winning season since 2009.

Callaway, a Class AA school, has become the most consistent winner in Troup County this past decade with five region titles and seven 10-win seasons since 2012.

Napier is a brother of Billy Napier, head coach at Louisiana-LaFayette, and son of the late Bill Napier, a former head coach at Murray County and other northwest Georgia schools. Matt’s youngest brother, Kurt, is head coach at Gladden Middle School in Murray County.
