Each week, we'll take a look at four of the state's top teams — two from the boys' side, and two from the girls' — and see how they're doing at this point in the season. Last week, we took a look at the then-No. 1-ranked teams, all of which remain at the top in the new rankings.
Here are the latest AJC rankings. Now, let's move on to the four featured teams.
Lassiter Trojans (11-0)
Upcoming matches: None until April 8 (spring break)
Notes: The No. 2 Trojans have opted to reload during their spring break rather than compete, and will enter their break unbeaten. What's remarkable is that seven of their wins have come against ranked teams, including No. 4 Centennial (14-11), No. 8 Cambridge (12-7), No. 9 Allatoona (12-6) and A-5A's No. 1 Lovett (8-6), No. 3 Blessed Trinity (15-9), A-5A's No. 4 Woodward Academy and No. 5 GAC (10-2). Their last game was the Lovett win on March 28.
Westminster Wolves (10-1)
Upcoming matches: None until April 5 (spring break)
Notes: The No. 2 Wolves last played on March 26 and return from their break to take on No. 3 Blessed Trinity, the defending state champs. Notable wins this season include 7-6 over Walton, the No. 3 team in 6A-7A, No. 4 Woodward Academy (8-5), No. 5 GAC (8-6), No. 10 Marist (11-8) and 4-3 over McCallie of Chattanooga, Tenn., which is the No. 2 overall team in the state according to Maxpreps. Their only loss was to 6A-7A's No. 10 Allatoona, 8-7 in overtime on Feb. 23.
Lassiter Lady Trojans (7-6)
Upcoming matches: Off until April 12 (spring break)
Notes: The Lady Trojans beat Wheeler 19-0 win to head into their break just one game over .500. Though their record doesn't turn heads, they're ranked No. 2 because they're still one of the best teams and their losses have been competitive and to some of the best teams in the country, including the nation's No. 5 and Florida's No. 1 Bishop Moore (13-12), Florida's No. 25 IMG Academy (12-11), Florida's No. 17 St. Thomas Aquinas (18-11), the nation's No. 17/Florida's No. 4 Lake Highland Prep (16-3), the nation's No. 6 and Florida's No. 2 American Heritage (17-9). They also lost to Maryland's No. 3 Notre Dame Prep, 17-6. Notable wins include 11-6 over Florida's No. 18 Hagerty, 13-10 over 6A-7A's No. 3 Mill Creek, 13-6 over No. 5 Kell and 9-8 over Glenelg County, the No. 15 team in Maryland. So to recap: the Lady Trojans are 5-0 against Peach State teams and can't be overlooked despite their record.
Lovett Lady Lions (9-0)
Upcoming matches: No. 8 Wesleyan (4-4) on Friday vs. Holy Innocents' (7-3) on Thursday
Notes: The No. 2 Lions are perfect thus far and will take five days off between their upcoming Wesleyan and Holy Innocents' games, which is not quite a full spring break. Notable wins include...well, they don't have any yet — they've yet to play a ranked team. Wesleyan will be the first of four ranked teams they'll play down the stretch.
