- Losing streak ends: Hardaway got a 34-yard touchdown pass from Dominique Ford to Ja'Kobe Ellerbee with 4:45 remaining Thursday to lead the Golden Hawks to a 33-30 victory over Chattahoochee County, ending a 19-game losing streak that was the longest in Class AAAAA. It was Hardaway's first victory since beating Columbus 21-7 on Sept. 6, 2013. The current longest losing streak in the classification is 12 games and is shared by Forest Park, Chapel Hill, Clarkston, Banneker and Cedar Shoals.

- Things are looking up: LaGrange opened the 2014 season with back-to-back losses to Callaway and Troup, marking the first time the Grangers had lost to both Troup County rivals in the same season. - City champions: Glynn Academy beat city rival Brunswick just four times in 20 meetings between 1995 and 2013, but the Red Terrors have now won two straight in the series after a 28-0 victory on Friday.
