Here are the Thursday updates from the holiday basketball tournaments across the state with updates from Georgia teams playing in national events as well.
Tournament of Champions at Wheeler: For the boys, Grayson defeated North Atlanta 64-56 behind Devion Smith’s 18 points. Javon Tatum added 13 points and Reco Hallmon put in 12 points. Josh Smith had 10 points for Grayson. North Atlanta was led by Messiah Thompson’s (2 points). Newton was paced by Tre Clark’s 32 points as it ran away from Greater Atlanta Christian 81-57. Pace Academy defeated Miller Grove 59-43. Reign Watkins led the Knights with 20 points, four assists and four steals. Madison Durr scored 15 points with nine rebounds, five steals and five assists. Josh Reed added 10 points and five rebounds. St. Francis was led by Dwon Odom’s 34 points in its 82-75 victory over Blanche Ely. Cameron Sheffield’s 24 points led Chattahoochee in its 87-63 win over Chapel Hill. Marshall defeated Johnson-Savannah 60-53 after taking a 13-8 lead after the first quarter. Johnson responded with a 21-6 run through the second quarter but a 24-12 effort by Marshall in the fourth quarter put the game away. Justin Day (21 points) led Sprayberry past Aquinas 82-59. Holy Innocents’ defeated Tri-Cities 61-50. Greenforest beat Cedar Shoals 54-47 behind a 24-point game from Nate Brown.
Lanierland at Chestatee: For the boys, North Hall defeated 55-46 behind a 13-point effort from Ty Smith. Lakeview Academy defeated West Hall 60-42 with a 17-point performance from Blake McIntyre. Chestatee defeated Lanier Christian 86-67. Lakeview Academy defeated West Hall 60-42. East Hall defeated Johnson-Gainesville 62-49 led by Kylan Curry’s 24 points. Danny Garcia added 17 points for Johnson-Gainesville.
For the girls, North Hall defeated Lakeview Academy 60-59 on a last-second shot from Ansleigh Ferguson. Gainesville’s girls defeated West Hall 70-62 behind a 30-point effort from Tija Blackwell and a 22-point effort from Tia Shelton. Blackwell also had 11 rebounds.
Lake City Classic at Allatoona: For the boys, Kell defeated Cedar Grove 61-46. Eagle’s Landing Christian defeated Etowah 61-44. Mill Creek defeated Warner Robins 69-61. Therrell beat Dacula 74-72. Eagle’s Landing Christian was paced by Keith Lamar with 18 points. CJ Hood added 16 points for ELCA.
In other events (Boys): First Presbyterian defeated Union Grove 55-54 behind a 31-point performance from Jordan Jones … In the Christian-Heritage Christmas Tournament Darlington defeated Howard Tech, TN 99-80 … Druid Hills beat Walnut Grove 74-70 in the Sweet South Classic at Morgan County High School … Villa Rica beat Our Lady of Mercy 76-46 in the New Manchester Holiday Tournament … In the Muscogee County Christmas Showcase, Hardaway defeated Jordan 72-57 … In the Mary Persons Holiday Tournament, Veterans beat Warren County 68-45 … At the Vidalia Christmas Tournament, Pierce County defeated Glynn Academy 56-43 … West Forsyth defeated Holton Arms, Md. 40-37 … West Orange, Fla. defeated Eagle’s Landing 60-53 in the Tampa Bay Christmas Tournament … In the Monterrey Christmas Tournament, Windsor Forest defeated Cross Creek 68-60 after being down 18-6 after the first quarter … In the Cleveland (TN) High School Under Armour Holiday Tournament, Demopolis, Ala. defeated Coahulla Creek 62-49 … Johns Creek beat Brother Martin, LA 64-58 … In the Shaw Christmas Tournament, Shaw defeated Russell County 79-39 after taking an 11-8 lead in the first quarter. Shaw pressed the lead with a 22-14 run in the second quarter and a 23-6 run through the third quarter to put the game away.
