Grayson 49, Parkview 10

Coming off a hard-fought victory against a top-ranked team, Grayson once again faced an undefeated opponent, this time on the road against Parkview.

Once again, Grayson passed the test, defeating the Panthers 49-10 in a Region 8-AAAAAA contest.

The Rams (4-0, 2-0) took control with a rushing attack led by Cameryn Brent, who tallied 148 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries. Grayson sprinkled in some big plays in the passing game, with Chase Brice completing 8 of his 13 passes for 208 yards and a pair of touchdowns, one of which was to Brent.

The win for Grayson comes a week after the Rams defeated then No. 1-ranked Archer, 26-24, on a last-second field goal.

“I’m really proud of them,” Rams coach Mickey Conn said. “We came out after that big, emotional win last week and responded. We did a good job of handling the success from the Archer win.

“I felt like defensively and offensively, we played really well.”

Grayson controlled the game from the start, jumping to a 14-0 first quarter lead with a 10-yard Brent run and 20-yard Brent reception.

The Panthers (3-1, 1-1) responded with a field goal early in the second quarter, but Grayson scored twice more in the quarter, including a 76-yard strike from Brice to Ernest Tiller on third-and-19.

Tiller’s reception put the Rams ahead 28-3 with 4:51 remaining in the half and seemingly took Parkview out of the game.

“We made some really huge catches on some third down calls,” Conn said. “Those were huge catches that kind of shifted the momentum our way.”

The Rams held their own defensively as well, containing Panthers quarterback Jack Chambers’ play-making abilities.

Chambers was coming off a big game the previous week against Brookwood where he compiled nearly 500 yards of total offense, but was limited against Grayson to 14 of 29 passing for 153 yards and two interceptions.

Chambers did manage a 48-yard pass to Johnathan Boyd for the Panthers’ only touchdown.
