Dalton wins Lady Cat Invitational
Etowah’s Melanie Talbott shot a 70 to take medalist honors at the Lady Cat Invitational in Dalton, but the host Catamounts came away with the team title.
Dalton shot a 230 to beat runner-up Etowah by 20 shots in the team competition. Dalton was led by Carson Roberts with a 73 and Mable McKone with a 77. Baylee Mitchell added an 80 for the Catamounts.
Etowah’s other scorers were Tyler Dawson with 82 and Lexie Dawson with a 98.
Woodward Academy, behind an 81 by Jakari Harris, finished third at 260. Pope got a 78 from Lizzy reedy and finished fourth at 266. Abby Bolt’s 74 helpd Woodstock finish fifth at 267. Megan Nay shot 78 for sixth-place Creekview.
Newnan takes lead at Greenway Trojan Invitational
Newnan shot a 292 to take the first-round lead of the Greenway Trojan Invitational at Sunset Hills in Carrollton. The Cougars have a nine-shot lead over Walton and a 10-shot advantage over Northgate and Spalding.
The second round will be contested on Monday, also at Sunset Hills.
Andrew Yowell of Walton is the individual leader with a 66, one shot better than Spalding’s Tye Waller, a Georgia Tech signee, and two ahead of Max Matistic of Newnan, a Georgia commitment.
Newnan also counted a 72 from Preston Wise and a 73 from Aaron Sweatman.
Joiner, Tardy tops at West Hall Invitational
Ryan Joiner of Blessed Trinity and Baily Tardy of Norcross won the West Hall Invitational on Saturday at Chateau Elan.
The boys played the Woodlands Course, the girls played the Chateau Course.
Joiner shot a 72, one shot better than West Forsyth’s Robert Shaw and Phillip Westbury of Brookwood. Dominic Jachetta of Brookwood shot 75 and four players finished at 76: Shawn Chong of Brookwood, John Klopfenstein of Holy Innocents’, David Kirk of Dalton and Austin Amburgy of West Forsyth. Brookwood won the team title at 309.
Tardy, who has signed with Georgia, shot a 72 to run away with the title. Rylie Marchman of Burke County placed second at 77 and Anna Buchanan of Athens Academy was third at 78. Tied for fourth at 79 were Elizabeth Funderburk of Colquitt County and Crockett Floyd of North Oconee. Colquitt County won the girls division at 245.
Mill Creek, Markham win Big Red Shootout
Alex Markham of Mill Creek was medalist at the Big Red Shootout, outdueling Gainesville’s Spencer Ralston at the Chattahoochee Golf Club and helping the Hawks win the team championship.
The tournament used the modified Stableford scoring system and Markham had 46 points. Mill Creek also got a 40 from Seth McAfee, 38 from Luka Karaulic and 37 from Phillip Beard.
