Glynn Academy picked up a significant victory last week when it beat city rival Brunswick 28-0 in the first region game of the year in 3-AAAAA.

Running back Garrison Hurd rushed for 96 yards, had 59 receiving yards and scored three touchdowns to help the Red Terrors establish themselves as a contender in the region.

Now, Glynn Academy has a chance to make a bigger statement when it faces Class AAAAAA No. 10 Camden County at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Glynn County Stadium.

Camden County enters the game 2-0, but the Wildcats have played less than five quarters of football in the first two games because of bad weather. Camden’s first game, a 48-13 victory over Lincoln, Fla., was stopped midway through the third quarter. Last week’s 21-7 victory over Dutchtown was called at halftime.

Camden County has won 10 consecutive games against Glynn Academy and leads the series 12-3.

Here are some of the other top games involving Class AAAAA teams this weekend:

- Carver-Columbus at Creekside (7:30 p.m. Friday): Carver and Creekside both finished the regular season 8-2 in 2014, but Creekside won their head-to-head matchup 29-27 in Columbus. Both teams are 2-0 and ranked in the top 10 this time around – Creekside is No. 9 and Carver is No. 10. Creekside avenged one of its 2014 losses when it beat Hughes 30-7 last week.

- Clarke Central at Lanier (7:30 p.m. Friday): Lanier won its first region title in 2014 in just its third full varsity season, and the Longhorns open defense of their 8-AAAAA championship by hosting perennial playoff contender Clarke Central. The Gladiators lost their opener against Class AAA No. 7 Hart County 24-21 last week. Lanier beat Class AAAAAA Lambert 17-7 two weeks ago.

- Central Gwinnett at Mundy's Mill (7:30 p.m. Friday, Twelve Oaks Stadium): Mundy's Mill seeks to bounce back from a tough 22-20 loss to Lovejoy when it faces another team that reached the AAAAAA playoffs last season. Mundy's Mill recovered from an 0-2 start last season, including a 21-8 loss to Central Gwinnett, to reach the playoffs. Central Gwinnet beat Collins Hill 35-29 last week.

- Evans at Northside-Warner Robins (7:30 p.m. Friday): Defending state champion Northside begins play in 2-AAAAA against an Evans team that finished in seventh place in the 10-team region in 2014. Northside escaped with a 27-24 victory over AAAAAA North Cobb in its season-opener two weeks ago, scoring the winning touchdown and two-point conversion with 21 seconds to play.

- M.L. King at Mays (8 p.m. Friday, Lakewood Stadium): M.L. King is trying to rebound from a 3-7 season in which the Lions lost to Mays 34-0 as part of an 0-5 start in what became the second losing season in program history. M.L. King got off to a good start this year, beating Columbia 20-7, but No. 5 Mays was the state runner-up last year and will show just how far the Lions have come back.
