For the first time in 2019, all eight teams that were No. 1 in the most recent high school girls basketball rankings held on to their spots for another week.

Wesleyan remained No. 1 in the Class A private-school division despite losing for the second consecutive week. The Wolves (22-2) lost to Class AAAAA No. 1 Buford 54-52 Saturday. The previous week, Wesleyan lost to Holy Innocents’ 68-63. The Golden Bears used that victory to climb to No. 2 in Class A private.

Buford (20-2) beat Johnson-Gainesville 63-15, Cedar Shoals 64-41 and Wesleyan last week to improve to 20-2 and maintain a slight lead over second-ranked Villa Rica (23-0), the only undefeated team remaining in the classification.

Jefferson, which was elevated to No. 1 in Class AAA last week, justified that promotion with a 68-55 victory Tuesday against Morgan County, which previously held the top spot. Morgan County also lost to Hart County 71-64 Saturday and fell from No. 2 to No. 8. Hart County is ranked No. 4.

Three of the other No. 1-ranked teams are undefeated. Marion County (Class A public) had the most difficult schedule of the three last week, when it beat then-No. 2 Greenville 73-63, Brookstone 59-23 and No. 7 Dooly County 62-39.

Westlake (AAAAAAA) defeated Wheeler and Newnan by an average of 45.5 points to improve to 21-0. Carver-Columbus (AAAA) beat No. 9 Westover, Cairo and Northside-Columbus and is 24-0.

Class AAAAAA No. 1 Lovejoy is 20-3 overall but undefeated against Georgia teams after beating Mundy’s Mill 56-23 Saturday in its only game of the week. The Wildcats head into a showdown with No. 2-ranked Forest Park this week that will determine the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Region 4-AAAAAA tournament. Regardless of how that plays out, Lovejoy and Forest Park will be the heavy favorites in the state tournament.

Dodge County remained the No. 1 team in Class AA after a week in which it picked up big region victories against Washington County and East Laurens to lock down the top seed for the 3-AA region tournament.

Six new teams broke into the rankings this week. Stephenson replaced Dacula in Class AAAAAA; North Murray and Pace Academy replaced Greater Atlanta Christian and Rutland in AAA; Southwest-Macon replaced Washington County in AA after beating the Golden Hawks 54-44 Friday; Greenforest replaced Darlington in Class A private; and Bowdon replaced Clinch County in Class A public.
