The GHSA Team Dual Wrestling Championships are set after a marathon of matches on Friday at the Macon Centreplex. On Saturday, the consolation bracket semifinals will begin the day at 9 a.m. with Class AAAAAAA’s consolation semis wrestling at 11 a.m. Then, the consolation finals for A-AAAAAA will begin at 11 a.m. and the AAAAAAA consolation finals will wrestle alongside the championship matches at 3 p.m.
Here’s a look at what took place on Friday.
Class AAAAAAA: After its 58-10 victory over West Forsyth in the semifinals, Camden County has a chance for a sixth-straight team duals title and Collins Hill stands in its way. Collins Hill defeated North Forsyth 42-23 to earn its finals berth. In the consolation bracket semifinals, West Forsyth will wrestle Brookwood and North Forsyth will face Archer. Brookwood moved past Newnan and McEachern to earn its berth in the consolation semis. Archer moved past East Coweta, Rockdale County and Mountain View to advance to the semis.
Class AAAAAA: Richmond Hill defeated Cambridge 43-21 in the semifinals to earn its berth against Pope in the finals. The Greyhounds narrowly moved past Creekview 28-26 to earn its berth in the championship match. In the consolation bracket semifinals, Cambridge will wrestle Brunswick and Creekview will face Alexander. Brunswick moved past Lanier and Sequoyah to earn its berth in the consolation semis. Alexander beat Valdosta and Coffee to advance to the consolation semis.
Class AAAAA: Woodland-Cartersville earned its finals berth with a 62-6 victory over Ola in the semifinals and will wrestle Veterans for the title. Veterans moved past Buford 37-25 to earn its berth in the championship. In the consolation bracket semifinals, Ola will face Ware County and Buford will wrestle Harris County. Harris County moved past Carrollton and Walnut Grove to earn its berth in the consolation semifinals. Ware defeated South Effingham and Union Grove to carve its way to the consolation semis.
Class AAAA: Woodward defeated Blessed Trinity 50-28 in the semifinals and will wrestle Gilmer in the championship. Gilmer's 46-27 victory over Central-Carroll sent it to the finals. In the consolation bracket semifinals, Blessed Trinity will wrestle West Laurens and Central-Carroll will face Northwest Whitfield. West Laurens' path to the consolation semis went through Cairo, Perry and North Oconee. Northwest Whitfield beat Eastside and Cartersville to get to the consolation semis.
Class AAA: For the first time in 18 years, Jefferson will not be a team duals champion after Sonoraville handed the Dragons a 48-22 loss in the semifinals. The Phoenix will face North Hall in the finals. North Hall defeated Jackson County 48-24 to earn its berth in the finals. In the consolation bracket semifinals, Adairsville will wrestle Jefferson and Lovett will face Jackson County. Lovett beat Pierce County and Stone Mountain to earn its berth in the consolation semis. Adairsville moved past Brantley County and Pike County to get to the consolation semis.
Class AA: Social Circle's 43-27 victory over Toombs County in the semifinals kept its bid for six-straight team dual championships alive. On the other side of the final, Chattooga earned its berth with a 45-27 victory over Elbert County in the semifinals. In consolation bracket semifinals, Bremen will wrestle Toombs County and Dade County will face Elbert County. Bremen defeated Dodge County and Screven County to get to the consolation semis. Dade County beat Harlem and Jeff Davis to advance to the consolation semis.
Class A: Commerce will be trying for a seventh-straight team duals championship after its 43-19 victory over Holy Innocents' in the semifinals. Trion stands in the way and earned its championship berth with a 42-22 victory over Mount Pisgah in the semis. In the consolation bracket semifinals, Landmark Christian will wrestle Holy Innocent's and Athens Christian will face Mount Pisgah. Athens Christian beat Irwin County and Mount Zion to get to the consolation semis. Landmark Christian's path to the consolation semis went through ECLA And Turner County.
