The Georgia Athletic Coaches Association announced five inductees for its hall of fame on Friday.
They are basketball coaches Don Richardson and Manson Hill and football coaches Ed Pilcher, French Johnson and Jimmy Dorsey (pictured right, photo courtesy of McEachern).
Richardson won six boys state championships and compiled a 463-90 record in 21 seasons at Southwest-Macon. His 1979 team featuring Jeff Malone and Terry Fair is often considered the best in state history.
Manson Hill won four state titles as girls coach at Gainesville. Hill also was a golf coach, and five his players won state titles.
Pilcher is best known as the coach at Thomas County Central from 1991 to 2007. His Yellow Jackets won five state championships (1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997). He won 250 games before retiring at Berrien in 2014.
Johnson was a head coach for 30 seasons, most notably at Marietta, where he won a state championship in 1967. His record was 207-105-11.
Dorsey was the long-time head coach at McEachern, where he won 12 region titles and became the winningest coach in Cobb County history. Dorsey’s record was 236-79-1. Dorsey remains McEachern's athletics director.
The induction weekend will be June 2-3 at the Northwest Trade Center in Dalton.
