Some observations from Friday night's games in Class AAAAAA ...

-Sixth-ranked Mill Creek defeated North Gwinnett 28-0 in a game that signaled a shift in power for Region 7. Defending champion North Gwinnett (2-3, 0-2) has not been shut out since 2009 nor lost a second region game since 2005. Mill Creek, which has never won a region title, is 5-0 for the first time in its 12-year football history.

-Roswell’s 42-3 victory over Milton had the same effect on Region 5. Milton (1-4, 1-2) is the defending champion, but third-ranked Roswell (4-0, 2-0) might be the heir apparent. Roswell will play at home next week against fifth-ranked Walton (5-0, 3-0). They are the region's only unbeaten teams.

-Region 1 was silent except for Lee County's 56-0 victory over Mitchell County. Next week, Colquitt County (5-0) at Lowndes (4-1) is probably the headliner among three region openers. Colquitt is ranked No. 1. The others are No. 9 Camden County (5-0) at Valdosta (4-1) and Tift County (5-0) at No. 8 Lee County (5-0).

-East Coweta (4-0) and Westlake (3-1) won in Region 3 to set up a game next week between what might be the region’s best teams.

-South Forsyth (5-0, 4-0) and Lambert (4-1, 4-0) have emerged as the top two teams in Region 6. South Forsyth beat Chattahoochee, and Lambert beat North Forsyth. No surprise with either. But Centennial’s mild upset victory over Johns Creek further separated the front-runners. South Forsyth and Lambert don’t play until Nov. 6.

-No big news in Region 8, except that the front-runners were pretty impressive. Archer beat Parkview 42-14, and Grayson routed Berkmar 7-6.
