Upstart Upson-Lee is the biggest surprise of the six remaining unbeaten Class AAAA teams.

The Knights (4-0) host West Laurens tonight in a battle of two hopeful contenders in Region 2-AAAA. Upson-Lee, under first-year coach Tommy Parks, is off to its first 4-0 start since 2000. They squeaked out a 14-12 win over region rival Baldwin last week and appear headed for only their second winning season in the last seven years. West Laurens (3-2) also won its Region 2 opener and has already matched last season’s win total.

No. 1 Buford, No. 2 Sandy Creek, No. 3 Griffin , No. 4 Marist and Southeast Whitfield are also unbeaten, entering Friday's slate.

Albany, Cross Keys, Hampton, Monroe Area, Mount Zion, New Hampstead, North Hall, Pike County, Redan, Stone Mountain, Veterans and Windsor Forest are all still looking for their first win this season.

--No. 1 Buford (4-0) travels to Chestatee (1-2) tonight for a Region 8-AAAA game. It’s the first road game for the undefeated Wolves, who were off last week. Twelve different players have scored touchdowns for Buford. Wolves linebackers coach Stan Luttrell spent the last eight seasons as head coach at Chestatee. This will be the first meeting between the two schools.

--Four of the top-10 teams in Class AAAA are off this week. No. 2 Sandy Creek, No. 3 Griffin, No. 8 Cairo and No. 9 Woodward Academy all have byes.

--Red-hot Columbia (4-1) heads to St. Pius X (2-2) for an intriguing Region 6-AAAA game. The Eagles have won four straight, outscoring opponents 166-20 during that stretch. The Lions have rebounded from a 0-2 start with wins over Lithonia and Grady. This is the first meeting between the two programs. Other Region 6-AAAA games include: Redan (0-5) vs. Chamblee; No. 4 Marist (5-0) vs. Lithonia (2-3), and Stone Mountain (0-5) vs. Arabia Mountain (1-3).
