GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.
Ben Hall, Jefferson
1. What is the most memorable game you've been a part of as a player or coach? "In 2012, I was an assistant coach on T. McFerrin's staff at Jefferson High School. We finished the season with a 14-1 record and earned the first football state championship in school history. While I will never forget the state championship game, the season-opening loss to Commerce is another game I will always remember. Following the 22-7 upset loss, our film crew realized the camera equipment had been left behind. I drove back to Commerce to check the press box. No cameras to be found. With my hat in my hand, I helped [Commerce] coach Marvin Justice figure out their new camera equipment and load their video into Hudl for the next five hours. As I watched the sunrise on my way home Saturday morning, I realized I must truly love what I am doing! That game had more of an impact on a team than any other game that I have ever been a part of."
2. Which high school coach would you want your son to play for, and why? "Some of my best friends and people that I respect the most are, or have been, coaches in this state. There are many that I would love for my boys to have the opportunity to play for. However, my brother, Jeb Hall, is the head football coach at Fuquay-Varina High School in North Carolina. He is a man of character that coaches the game the right way. Furthermore, I know my boys' grandmother will make sure that they get a fair shake!"
3. What is your pet peeve as a coach or favorite saying/motto? "'Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.' - Dwight D. Eisenhower."
4. Which GHSA policy or high school football rule would you most like to see changed? "Third-party trainers, camps, combines etc., are getting out of hand. Kids are spending money to over-train and hear false promises. Football is at its purest is when players are truly playing together for their school and town, and not for a college scholarship."
