GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.
Justin DeShon, Chapel Hill
1. What is the real difference-maker in winning and losing in Georgia high school football? "I think winning is obviously a combination of things. Each one of those [talent, coaching, chemistry, administration, community, tradition, facilities/resources] is so vital to the structure and organization of your daily operation. The two that stand out so far to me in my short tenure as a head coach is coaching and players. The combination of those two together is dangerous!"
2. Which player that you've coached is memorable mostly for his character or inspiration? "I don't really have just one. I have had the opportunity to coach so many guys that have done whatever we have asked, whenever we asked. This is a great question, though, and it gave me an opportunity to reflect on some great people that have grown up to do special things."
3. What is the best atmosphere for a high school game that you've experienced away from home? "East Paulding with the cannon is a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, when you hear the cannon, it's not going your way."
4. As a player or coach at any level, which game do you wish you could play again? "Chapel Hill vs. Hiram, 2015. We had just come off losing to our rival the week before at home in the last seconds. I knew all week we were protecting against a letdown, but we didn't do enough in practice to get ourselves ready mentally. We showed up flat and slightly unfocused. Those two weeks set us up for an uphill climb the rest of that season."
