Roderick Moore is coming home to DeKalb County as head football coach at Redan.
Moore was 26-18 at another DeKalb school, McNair, from 2005 to 2008. He then was defensive coordinator at Southwest DeKalb, Columbia and Creekside Christian Academy in McDonough. He also spent a preseason at Savannah State until the staff was let go.
Moore said he would meet with players for the first time on Tuesday and then parents on Thursday.
‘’There’s a lot of potential at Redan High School,’’ Moore said. “From the outside, people see a 1-9 record, but once you get in the building, you can see the talent. They’ve just been beaten down, but they just have to change the attitude. It’s the same as when we were at McNair.’’
Moore led McNair to three playoff berths. He was forced out controversially just two weeks before the 2010 opening game. No public reason was given, but Moore acknowledged conflict with the principal. The school hasn’t had a winning season or playoff berth since.
‘’I feel great about being back,’’ Moore said. “I was born and raised in DeKalb County and went to high school here (Druid Hills), and I appreciate the support that my family and principal (Greg) Goodwin and other people have given me in the county to be in the position I’m in now.’’
Redan last made the playoffs or had a winning season in 2007 (6-5) and finished 1-9 last season under coach Willie Griffieth.
